A message from Professor Peter Lee, Centre Director:
Since the establishment of the ARC CMIT on 5th September, we have had a few activities that showcased the capabilities of the training centre:
Dr. Katie Allen, MP, Member for Higgins, officially launched ARC CMIT on 8 November 2019. There was a great turnout which was attended by academics, clinicians, industry and government representatives. It was a good start in building a strong collaboration among the partners.
The panel discussion after the launch provided an avenue to discuss the Future of Medical Implant Technologies. There were insightful comments from a panel responding to challenging questions from the Master of Ceremonies, Ms Ali Moore.
The first workshop with the ARC CMIT partners was held after the official launch. Each of the partners introduced their respective research programs. It was a good opportunity for the PhD students and Research Fellows to meet with the partners.
We have hosted a few international visitors including:
Materialise Malaysia who showed the capabilities of the Magic 3D Print Suite;
A 2-day joint workshop between ARC CMIT and the National Medical Products Administration of China (formerly China FDA) and Beijing Naton Medical Group. The workshop provided PhD students and researchers of ARC CMIT and Melbourne School of Engineering the opportunity to understand the regulatory requirements of medical implants in China.
We welcomed Dr Dale Robinson (Research Fellow) who will co-supervise some of the PhD students at the University of Melbourne. Dr. Dale Robinson won the David Finlay ECR award at the ANZORS 25th Scientific Meeting held in Canberra on 4-6 Oct 2019. The award was presented for the best presentation/ paper by an early career researcher at the conference. Dale presented a paper on the application of acoustic emission sensors to detect vertebral body fractures.
A thank you to Dr. Jia-Yee Lee for her contribution to the Victorian Government State Engineering report 2019 that featured ARC CMIT.
I am proud of the achievements that we have accomplished in only a short period of time and look forward to another successful year in 2020.
Happy Holidays!
Best wishes,
Peter
