Prof. Andrea 'Connor appointed as the inaugural Shanahan Chair in Frontier Medical Solutions


Congratulations to Professor Andrea O’Connor on being appointed as the inaugural Shanahan Chair in Frontier Medical Solutions. This is a joint appointment between the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) and the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS), University of Melbourne embedded at the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.


The Shanahan Chair is possible thanks to the generosity of Brenda Shanahan and her daughters, Anna and Camille. The Shanahan family are supportive of the important partnership between clinicians, engineers and scientists to treat and potentially cure the most difficult medical challenges.


Professor O’Connor is a Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering while simultaneously leading the Tissue Engineering Group. Her new position as Chair will facilitate further research in tissue engineering and biomaterials, at the very cutting edge of regenerative medicine.


Professor O’Connor commenced her new role as Shanahan Chair on 19 July.
